Movies That Were Expected to Be a Huge Success But Failed Terribly

Hollywood continually releases new movies, many of them thrill viewers but when they come out, they are not what people expected, they do not meet expectations, and they raise much less money than they were supposed to; like just happened to Raya and the Last Dragon. Here you will see some movies that were expected to be very successful but only received bad reviews.

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

The pandemic has hit the film industry hard, and although many cinemas have reopened, Raya and the Last Dragon was not interesting enough to bring viewers back. Its first weekend only raised $ 8 million, which is critical for a company as huge as Disney. On the positive side, it has been a popular movie on the Disney + platform and also received good reviews.

Doolittle (2020)

Especially after Endgame, it could have been considered that everything Robert Downey Jr. touches turns into gold, but Doolittle showed that this is not so true. This film that cost $ 180 million, only managed to raise $ 57.3 million in its first weeks. We are just talking domestically, but internationally. At least, in the end, the movie raised $ 251.4 million, which is very little considering that they could barely cover the cost of realization.

Cats (2019)

Cats is a very famous musical that has been performing in the most important theaters in the world for years. If you add to this a star-studded cast like Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, and Idris Elba and turn it into a movie, what could go wrong? Well, since the trailer for this strange movie came out, the answer was very negative. The reason: that a live-action with anthropomorphic cats just doesn't look good. The cost of this movie was $ 95 million but only grossed $ 27.2 million in the United States.

Terminator: Dark Fate (2018)

The return of Sarah Connor looked promising and at first. The reviews were very flattering, but the same support was not seen at the box office. Continuing with the famous saga was a safe bet to satisfy the viewers and obtain a good profit of money, but that didn’t happen. Although the film raised more than 261 million dollars, it was not the figure that Paramount expected and the fans were not satisfied with the film either.

Ghostbusters (2016)

This reboot featured a cast of well-known comedians like Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones, but that didn't save the film from the terrible reception it had. In fact, its director Paul Feig blamed the male audience for the film's failure, as he felt that the female version of Ghostbuster was simply boycotted. The budget for this movie was $ 144 million and in the United States, it raised only $ 128 million.

Despite the box office failure, some films manage to become cult films or become loved by the public, as has happened with movies such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. After all, we all have a favorite movie that was hated by critics, and we couldn’t care less.
